Re: Slavery reparations

I am waiting for checks from the Israelites (vs. Canaanites), the
French (Napoleon's ruin) and England (Edward I).

Bubbly Lyrics - Colbie Caillat

Bubbly Lyrics - Colbie Caillat

Will you count me in?

I've been awake for a while now
You got me feelin like a child now
'Cause every time I see your bubbly face
I get the tinglies in a silly place
chorus:
It starts in my toes
And I crinkle my nose
Wherever it goes
I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Wherever you go

The rain is falling on my window pane
But we are hiding in a safer place
Under covers staying dry and warm
You give me feelings that I adore
(repeat chorus)

What am I gonna say
When you make me feel this way
I just mmmmm

And it starts in my toes
Makes me crinkle my nose
[Bubbly lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

Wherever it goes
I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Wherever you go

I've been asleep for a while now
You tuck me in just like a child now
'Cause every time you hold me in your arms
I'm comfortable enough to feel your warmth

And it stats in my soul
And I lose all control
When you kiss my nose
The feelin' shows
'cause you make me smile baby
Just take your time now
Holdin' me tight

Wherever wherever wherever you go
Wherever wherever wherever you go

wherever you go
I always know
'Cause you make me smile
Even just for a while

No Air Lyrics : Jordin Sparks

No Air Lyrics

Tell me how I’m supposed to breathe with no air?

If I should die before I wake
Because you took my breath away
Losing you is like living in a world without no air, oh

I’m here alone, didn’t wanna leave
My heart won’t move, it’s incomplete
Is there an other way I can make you understand?

(Hook)
But how
Do you expect me, to live alone with just me?
‘Cause my world revolves around you
It’s so hard for me to breathe

(Chorus)
Tell me how I’m supposed to breathe with no air?
Can’t live, can’t breath with no air
That’s how I feel whenever ain’t there
There’s no air, no air
Got me out here in the water so deep
Tell me how you gon’ be here without me?
If you ain’t here I just can’t breathe
There’s no air, no air
No air air, No air air

I walked, I ran, I jumped,
I took right off the ground to float to you
There’s no gravity to hold me down, for real

But somehow I’m still alive inside
You took my breath but I survived
I don’t know how but I don’t even care

(Hook)

So how do you expect me to live alone with just me?
‘Cause my world revolves around you
It’s so hard for me to breathe

(Chorus)
Tell me how I’m supposed to breathe with no air?
Can’t live, can’t breath with no air
That’s how I feel whenever ain’t there
There’s no air, no air
Got me here out in the water so deep
Tell me how you gon’ be here without me?
If you ain’t here I just can’t breathe
There’s no air, no air
No air air, No air air

(Chorus)
Tell me how I’m supposed to breathe with no air?
Can’t live, can’t breath with no air
That’s how I feel whenever ain’t there
There’s no air, no air
Got me out here in the water so deep
Tell me how you gon’ be here without me?
If you ain’t here I just can’t breathe
There’s no air, no air
No air air, No air air

(Outro)
Got me here out in the water so deep

Tell me how you gon’ be here without me?

If you ain’t here I just can’t breathe

There’s no air, no air
No air air, No air air

No One Lyrics - Alicia Keys

"No One" Lyrics by Alicia Keys

I just want you close
Where you can stay forever
You can be sure
That it will only get better

You and me together
Through the days and nights
I don't worry 'cause
Everything's going to be alright
People keep talking they can say what they like
But all i know is everything's going to be alright

No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I'm feeling
No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I feel for you, you, you
Can get in the way of what I feel for you

When the rain is pouring down
And my heart is hurting
You will always be around
This I know for certain

You and me together
Through the days and nights
I don't worry 'cause
Everything's going to be alright
People keep talking they can say what they like
But all i know is everything's going to be alright

No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I'm feeling
No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I feel for you, you, you
Can get in the way of what I feel

I know some people search the world
To find something like what we have
I know people will try try to divide something so real
So till the end of time I'm telling you there ain't no one

No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I'm feeling
No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I feel for you, you, you
Can get in the way of what I feel for you

oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Don't Stop The Music Lyrics : Rihanna

Don't Stop The Music Lyrics
Please don't stop the music (4x)

It's gettin late
I'm making my way over to my favorite place
I gotta get my body moving shake the stress away
I wasn't looking for nobody when you looked my way
Possible candidate (yeah)
Who knew
That you'd be up in here lookin like you do
You're makin' stayin' over here impossible
Baby I must say your aura is incredible
If you dont have to go don't

Do you know what you started
I just came here to party
But now we're rockin on the dancefloor
Acting naughty
Your hands around my waist
Just let the music play
We're hand in hand
Chest to chest
And now we're face to face

I wanna take you away
Lets escape into the music
DJ let it play
I just can't refuse it
Like the way you do this
Keep on rockin to it
Please don't stop the

Don't you feel the passion ready to explode

»Touch My Body Lyrics - Mariah Carey

TOUCH MY BODY [Mariah Carey - C. Tricky Stewart - Terius "The-Dream" Nash]

MC, you're the place to be
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

I know that you've been waiting for it
I'm waiting too
In my imagination I'd be all up on you
I know you got that fever for me
Hundred and two
And boy I know I feel the same
My temperature's through the roof

If there's a camera up in here
Then it's gonna leave with me
When I do (I do)
If there's a camera up in here
Then I'd best not catch this flick
On YouTube (YouTube)
'Cause if you run your mouth and brag
About this secret rendezvous
I will hunt you down
'Cause baby I'm up in my bidness
Like a Wendy interview
But this is private
Between you and I

Touch my body
Put me on the floor
Wrestle me around
Play with me some more
Touch my body
Throw me on the bed
I just wanna make you feel
Like you never did.
Touch my body
Let me wrap my thighs
All around your waist
Just a little taste
Touch my body
Know you love my curves
Come on and give me what I deserve
And touch my body.

Boy you can put me on you
Like a brand new white tee
I'll hug your body tighter
Than my favorite jeans
I want you to caress me
Like a tropical breeze
And float away with you
In the Caribbean Sea

If there's a camera up in here
Then it's gonna leave with me
When I do (I do)

You won't wanna go nowhere
In the lap of luxury
Baby just turn to me
You won't want for nothing boy
I will give you plenty
Touch my body

The Great Food For Fuel Scam

The Great Food For Fuel Scam

In the current political climate, attacking Ethanol is much like
Barack Obama attacking Hillary Clinton. It's more than possible we
could both end up with a horse head in our bed. Point is: You don't
take on Clinton Inc. or Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). I don't actually
own a horse, so here we go. Hillary will have to wait until a future
date.

The greatest scam perpetuated on the American taxpayer in the last 15
years is our increasing production and use of Ethanol as a motor fuel.
Ethanol, left to the free market would fail miserably. Ethanol
survives the marketplace only because of governmental support. In
January, three U.S. senators, - two Democrats, Tom Harkin of Iowa and
Barack Obama of Illinois, along with Indiana Republican Richard Lugar
- introduced a bill that would promote the use of ethanol. The federal
government already subsidizes Ethanol to the tune of 6.8 billion
annually and will soon increase to 8 billion.

The numbers on Ethanol aren't merely disgusting but should be
criminal. The latest science on Ethanol as a pollutant shows Ethanol
as a motor fuel is much worse than gasoline when refining pollutants
are considered. Another study by the Cato Institute found that if all
of our farmland was planted with corn we could only reduce our
dependence on foreign oil by 12%.

Probably the greatest unintended consequence of the Ethanol scam is
the huge impact upon our general economy. Greater demand for corn has
inflated prices from a historically stable $2 per bushel to about $4.
Sure, corn farmers are enamored with this increase but the public is
now facing higher prices for beef, pork, chicken, milk, and a host of
other food products with the common denominator of corn.

Brazil. Ethanol debaters love to point to Brazil as being 100% Ethanol
but leave out two key points. The Bazillion government subsidizes
Ethanol presently north of 9 Billion dollars. Vast tracts of Bazillion
farmland have been wasted. The largest fuel for Ethanol in Brazil is
sugar cane, not corn. Sugar is by far more efficient in producing
Ethanol and Brazil would dearly love to export sugar to America, but,
"14 Sugar Families" and congress stands in the way.

Another drawback to Ethanol is the enormous need for water required
for the fermentation and refining processes. Recently City officials
in Champaign and Urbana were shocked to learn that a nearby Ethanol
plant under construction would use 2 million gallons of water a day.

If all, "and I mean all" of the credible science points to the
undisputable fact of Ethanol as not being scientifically supportable,
why aren't any of our elected genius's speaking out against
governmental support for Ethanol? That's a good question my friends
and easy to answer. Science in this country has been politicized and
thus adulterated. Politicians play to the lowest common denominator
and the media fails to do its job of informing the people. And of
course there is the Iowa Caucuses. Ah Well....Checkers sell more than
chess. Conservative Springfield Staff Writer

Exactly What's defective

That's exactly what's defective about conservative/GOP thinking. It
is always a "guess" or an "assumption". So, so dangerous!

G.I. Joe was just a toy, wasn't he?

G.I. Joe was just a toy, wasn't he?

Hollywood now proposes that in a new live-action movie based on the
G.I. Joe toy line, Joe's -- well, "G.I." -- identity needs to be
replaced by membership in an "international force based in Brussels."
The IGN Entertainment news site reports Paramount is considering
replacing our "real American hero" with "Action Man," member of an
"international operations team."

Paramount will simply turn Joe's name into an acronym.

The show biz newspaper Variety reports: "G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-
based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity,
an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment
to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing
Scottish arms dealer."

Well, thank goodness the villain -- no need to offend anyone by making
our villains Arabs, Muslims, or foreign dictators of any stripe these
days, though apparently Presbyterians who talk like Scottie on "Star
Trek" are still OK -- is a double-crossing arms dealer. Otherwise one
might be tempted to conclude the geniuses at Paramount believe arms
dealing itself is evil.

(Just for the record, what did the quintessential American hero,
Humphrey Bogart's Rick Blaine in "Casablanca," do before he opened his
eponymous cafe? Yep: gun-runner.)

According to reports in Variety and the aforementioned IGN, the
producers explain international marketing would simply prove too
difficult for a summer, 2009 film about a heroic U.S. soldier. Thus
the need to "eliminate Joe's connection to the U.S. military."

Well, who cares. G.I. Joe is just a toy, right? He was never real.
Right?

On Nov. 15, 2003, an 85-year-old retired Marine Corps colonel died of
congestive heart failure at his home in La Quinta, Calif., southeast
of Palm Springs. He was a combat veteran of World War II. His name was
Mitchell Paige.

It's hard today to envision -- or, for the dwindling few, to remember
-- what the world looked like on Oct. 25, 1942 -- 65 years ago.

The U.S. Navy was not the most powerful fighting force in the Pacific.
Not by a long shot. So the Navy basically dumped a few thousand lonely
American Marines on the beach at Guadalcanal and high-tailed it out of
there.

(You old swabbies can hold the letters. I've written elsewhere about
the way Bull Halsey rolled the dice on the night of Nov. 13, 1942,
violating the stern War College edict against committing capital ships
in restricted waters and instead dispatching into the Slot his last
two remaining fast battleships, the South Dakota and the Washington,
escorted by the only four destroyers with enough fuel in their bunkers
to get them there and back. By 11 p.m., with the fire control systems
on the South Dakota malfunctioning, with the crews of those American
destroyers cheering her on as they treaded water in an inky sea full
of flaming wreckage, "At that moment Washington was the entire U.S.
Pacific Fleet," writes naval historian David Lippman. "If this one
ship did not stop 14 Japanese ships right then and there, America
might lose the war. ..." At midnight precisely, facing those
impossible odds, the battleship Washington opened up with her 16-inch
guns. If you're reading this in English, you should be able to figure
out how she did.)

But the Washington's one-sided battle with the Kirishima was still
weeks in the future. On Oct. 25, Mitchell Paige was back on the God-
forsaken malarial jungle island of Guadalcanal.

On Guadalcanal, the Marines struggled to complete an airfield that
could threaten the Japanese route to Australia. Admiral Yamamoto knew
how dangerous that was. Before long, relentless Japanese
counterattacks had driven the supporting U.S. Navy from inshore
waters. The Marines were on their own.

As Platoon Sgt. Mitchell Paige and his 33 riflemen set about carefully
emplacing their four water-cooled .30-caliber Brownings on that
hillside, 65 years ago this week -- manning their section of the thin
khaki line that was expected to defend Henderson Field against the
assault of the night of Oct. 25, 1942 -- it's unlikely anyone thought
they were about to provide the definitive answer to that most
desperate of questions: How many able-bodied U.S. Marines does it take
to hold a hill against 2,000 armed and motivated attackers?

But by the time the night was over, "The 29th (Japanese) Infantry
Regiment has lost 553 killed or missing and 479 wounded among its
2,554 men," historian Lippman reports. "The 16th (Japanese) Regiment's
losses are uncounted, but the 164th's burial parties handled 975
Japanese bodies. ... The American estimate of 2,200 Japanese dead is
probably too low."

You've already figured out where the Japanese focused their attack,
haven't you? Among the 90 American dead and seriously wounded that
night were all the men in Mitchell Paige's platoon. Every one. As the
night of endless attacks wore on, Paige moved up and down his line,
pulling his dead and wounded comrades back into their foxholes and
firing a few bursts from each of the four Brownings in turn,
convincing the Japanese forces down the hill that the positions were
still manned.

The citation for Paige's Medal of Honor picks up the tale: "When the
enemy broke through the line directly in front of his position, P/Sgt.
Paige, commanding a machine gun section with fearless determination,
continued to direct the fire of his gunners until all his men were
either killed or wounded. Alone, against the deadly hail of Japanese
shells, he fought with his gun and when it was destroyed, took over
another, moving from gun to gun, never ceasing his withering fire."

In the end, Sgt. Paige picked up the last of the 40-pound, belt-fed
Brownings and did something for which the weapon was never designed.
Sgt. Paige walked down the hill toward the place where he could hear
the last Japanese survivors rallying to move around his flank, the
belt-fed gun cradled under his arm, firing as he went.

Coming up at dawn, battalion executive officer Major Odell M. Conoley
was the first to discover how many able-bodied United States Marines
it takes to hold a hill against two regiments of motivated, combat-
hardened infantrymen who have never known defeat.

On a hill where the bodies were piled like cordwood, Mitchell Paige
alone sat upright behind his 30-caliber Browning, waiting to see what
the dawn would bring.

The hill had held, because on the hill remained the minimum number of
able-bodied United States Marines necessary to hold the position.

And that's where the unstoppable wave of Japanese conquest finally
crested, broke, and began to recede. On an unnamed jungle ridge on an
insignificant island no one ever heard of, called Guadalcanal.

When the Hasbro Toy Co. called some years back, asking permission to
put the retired colonel's face on some kid's doll, Mitchell Paige
thought they must be joking.

But they weren't. That's his mug, on the little Marine they call "G.I.
Joe." At least, it has been up till now.

Mitchell Paige's only condition? That G.I. Joe must always remain a
United States Marine.

But don't worry. Far more important for our new movies not to offend
anyone in Cairo or Karachi or Paris or Palembang.

After all, it's only a toy. It doesn't mean anything.

Climate facts to warm to

CATASTROPHIC predictions of global warming usually conjure with the
notion of a tipping point, a point of no return.
Last Monday - on ABC Radio National, of all places - there was a
tipping point of a different kind in the debate on climate change. It
was a remarkable interview involving the co-host of Counterpoint,
Michael Duffy and Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of
Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs. Anyone in
public life who takes a position on the greenhouse gas hypothesis will
ignore it at their peril.

Duffy asked Marohasy: "Is the Earth stillwarming?"

She replied: "No, actually, there has been cooling, if you take 1998
as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your point of
reference, then temperatures have plateaued. This is certainly not
what you'd expect if carbon dioxide is driving temperature because
carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have
actually been coming down over the last 10 years."

Duffy: "Is this a matter of any controversy?"

Marohasy: "Actually, no. The head of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change) has actually acknowledged it. He talks about the
apparent plateau in temperatures so far this century. So he recognises
that in this century, over the past eight years, temperatures have
plateaued ... This is not what you'd expect, as I said, because if
carbon dioxide is driving temperature then you'd expect that, given
carbon dioxide levels have been continuing to increase, temperatures
should be going up ... So (it's) very unexpected, not something that's
being discussed. It should be being discussed, though, because it's
very significant."

Duffy: "It's not only that it's not discussed. We never hear it, do
we? Whenever there's any sort of weather event that can be linked into
the global warming orthodoxy, it's put on the front page. But a fact
like that, which is that global warming stopped a decade ago, is
virtually never reported, which is extraordinary."

Duffy then turned to the question of how the proponents of the
greenhouse gas hypothesis deal with data that doesn't support their
case. "People like Kevin Rudd and Ross Garnaut are speaking as though
the Earth is still warming at an alarming rate, but what is the
argument from the other side? What would people associated with the
IPCC say to explain the (temperature) dip?"

Marohasy: "Well, the head of the IPCC has suggested natural factors
are compensating for the increasing carbon dioxide levels and I guess,
to some extent, that's what sceptics have been saying for some time:
that, yes, carbon dioxide will give you some warming but there are a
whole lot of other factors that may compensate or that may augment the
warming from elevated levels of carbon dioxide.

"There's been a lot of talk about the impact of the sun and that maybe
we're going to go through or are entering a period of less intense
solar activity and this could be contributing to the current cooling."

Chief of firm involved in breach is Obama adviser

what is the obama campaign up to?

Chief of firm involved in breach is Obama adviserhttp://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/22/passport.files/
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The CEO of a company whose employee is accused of
improperly looking at the passport files of presidential candidates is
a consultant to the Barack Obama campaign, a source said Saturday.
art.brennan.gi.jpg

Analysis Corp. President John Brennan, shown here in 2004, advises
Barack Obama, a source tells CNN.
John O. Brennan, president and CEO of the Analysis Corp., advises the
Illinois Democrat on foreign policy and intelligence issues, the
source said.

Brennan briefed the media on behalf of the campaign this month.

The executive is a former senior CIA official and former interim
director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

He contributed $2,300 to the Obama campaign in January.

When asked about the contribution, a State Department official told
CNN's Zain Verjee, "We ethically awarded contracts. Political
affiliation is not one of the factors that we check."

On Friday, the department revealed that Obama's passport file was
improperly accessed three times this year, and the passport files of
the two other major presidential candidates -- Democrat Hillary
Clinton and Republican John McCain -- had also been breached. Video

Three contractors are accused in the wrongdoing, including the one who
works for the Analysis Corp. and who was disciplined. That contractor
accessed McCain's file in addition to Obama's. None of the contractors
was identified.

The Washington Times, which broke the story Thursday night that
Obama's records had been improperly accessed, reported Saturday that
the State Department inquiry is focusing on the Analysis Corp.
employee. Also, the investigation by the department's inspector
general will include polygraph tests for supervisors in the passport
section to find out whether there was any political motive.

The department spokesman said Saturday that he would not comment on
whether the department was administering polygraphs to employees in
connection with the investigation.

The other two contractors who worked for Stanley Inc. were fired.

"While this is a rare occurrence, we regret the unauthorized access of
any individual's private information," the company said in a statement
Friday.

Stanley has had contracts with the department since 1992 and was
recently awarded a $570 million contract to continue providing support
for passport processing. Its CEO, Philip Nolan, contributed $1,000 to
the Clinton campaign. Video Watch how contractor execs are linked to

The department official said the three contractors worked in three
offices in the Washington area that are involved in various functions.
One office does consular work and visas on evenings, holidays,
weekends and overnights; another office issues passports; the third
office scans and files materials.

The source said there has been no problem in the past with the
Analysis Corp. employee, who has "extensive" experience. The worker
has been with the company for years and has always worked under a
State Department contract.

Explaining that the department had "complimented" this person for work
in the past, the source said the individual is considered a "terrific"
employee, except for this one instance, characterized as an
"aberration."

The department asked the Analysis Corp. not to take any administrative
action against the employee while the investigation is under way.

On Friday, the company released a statement saying it would fully
cooperate with the federal investigation. The source said the Analysis
Corp. has told the employee to do the same.

Echoing the State Department spokesman Friday, this source said there
is no indication the motivation was anything but idle curiosity.

The source said the Analysis Corp. first learned of its employee's
actions Friday morning when it received a call from the State
Department. In its statement, the firm confirmed that one of the
contractors was an employee and called it "an isolated incident."

if obama was white, he would net be where he is

face the fact that the only reason obama is where he is is because he
is black. the liberals are drooling over him. but admit it, if he
were white he would be no where. the fool has no plans, no solutions,
just empty talk, and empty rhetoric. white people back him to make
themselves feel good. feel enlightened. kind of like giving the
homeless guy a dollar. poor excuse to put an extreme liberal empty
suit in the WH, just so you can feel good about yourself.

Obama and Clinton photo stooges

Where is there more racism, the North or the South???

That happened to me in a native bar in Jamacia but I was with two
white male companions and we left before any trouble started. Also
there was some trouble on the way to the Falls but we outdrove them.
Then- the 70's- there was rivalry between Blacks and India Indians.
But also such a huge disparity between the wealthy Whites/tourists and
poor. Quite a contrast to the PPG and Churchill parties. Had a waiter
who thought an early breakfast meant I was looking for "comfort" so I
figured he had serviced a lot of British and American women.// I do
think America is racist though I am grateful to Black Audrey, the
cook, who saved me while my mother had a furious divorce. And Black
Martha who worked for my mother for 13 years. And even understand the
one who stole two of my formals.// I get along with everyone but avoid
certain parts of my city. My last son begged me not to come to his
junior high and high school- he was afraid I'd get trampled. :-) I
volunteered anyway and listened to the voices and watched the behavior
and knew this was not the America I had grown up in. How about you?

My experience as well. When my wife and I moved to SC from CA in the early 80s (a Navy move), we expected a throwback to yesteryear (we were from SD and MT, and knew little of the South). We expected backwardness and, I guess, Smokie and the Bandit.

Good grief.

First time in a grocery store: "What're those scanner things?" Way
ahead of CA. The people? So hard to find racism that when we did see
it (maybe twice in 5 years), it was especially shocking.

So we learned a thing or two about the South.

Then we moved to Chicago.

:-\

From conservative SC to liberal IL. And from good race relations to,
basically, absurdidity. Of course, it didn't help that we unwittingly
moved to Cicero, where Republicans were the wanna-be equivalent of the
Chicago machine -- only more laughable and openly corrupt about it. But
I digress.

Yes, Chicago has a lot more racism -- mostly among Blacks and European
minorities, IMO -- than the South. I don't see it among folk I know
personally -- but then I don't often get into the west or south sides,
at least not for social reasons where I get to meet people and see
whether it's there.

I haven't because my younger son, adopted, is about 1/8 or maybe 1/16
or 1/4 black or African-American or African-Canadian or whatever the
race baiters insist I call my own son.

I always assumed you hillbillies would lynch all of us for
miscegenation, or letting the kid ride in the front seat, or similar.
I know the American media are mostly liberal liars and yet (here it
gets embarrassing) I believed them in their relentless attacks on the
American people, particularly Southerners, as racists.

Al Qaeda: Terror Cell behind mortar strike on U.S. Embassy in Yemen

Al QaedaAn al Qaeda terror cell was behind a mortar strike against the U.S. Embassy in Yemen that missed its target but killed a security guard and wounded 13 students at a nearby school, an Interior Ministry official said Saturday.

The official, speaking on customary condition of anonymity, said al Qaeda militant Hamza al-Dayan launched three mortars at the embassy Tuesday before fleeing in a vehicle with three accomplices.

The mortar shells crashed into the school in the downtown Sawan district of Sanaa, killing the security guard and wounding 13 schoolgirls, three grievously.

On Thursday, the police arrested five suspects in the attack. It was not clear if they have any connection to al-Dayan and his men, who remain at large.

U.S. officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday. The embassy has informed its nonessential staff they are permitted to leave Yemen if they want to.

China's threat to crush Tibetan Uprisings follow Britain and India's

China's threats to crush the Tibetan uprisings were followed by protests in Britain and India on Saturday, while European politicians again raised the prospect of boycotting the Beijing Olympics if violence continues.

The Communist Party's flagship newspaper People's Daily urged "the shattering of the conspiracy and sabotaging activities of the 'Tibet independence' forces" on Saturday.

Beijing also released a "Most Wanted" list of 21 protesters as it seeks to quell the largest challenge to China's control of the region since the 1959 uprising.

But in London, hundreds of people protested outside China's embassy in a gathering organized by the Free Tibet Campaign, among other activist groups.

"The Chinese are worried about their public image, their global image at the Olympics. We're worried about lives," Chonpel Tsering, a Tibetan who has lived in London since 1982, told The Associated Press. News from CNN

Taiwan voters overwhelmingly elect Nationalis Party M Ying-Jeou President

Taiwan voters overwhelmingly elected Nationalist Party candidate Ma Ying-jeou to be president on Saturday, apparently choosing the promise of economic growth through closer ties with China over fears that those ties to the mainland could lead to a loss of independence.

Ma, whose campaign touted the economic benefits of better relations with China, defeated the Democratic Progressive Party's Frank Hsieh, who advocated going slower and holding back in some areas.

Taiwan's central election commission projected that Ma Ying-jeou had won more than 58 percent versus Frank Hsieh's 41 percent, with most of the votes counted.

His margin of victory was the largest in the history of Taiwan's presidential races.

Ma's vote total topped the 7 million mark, a point at which it would be mathematically impossible for him to lose, the commission said.

The commission estimated that 75 percent of Taiwan's eligible voters cast ballots in the presidential race. More From CNN

Meramec River Leaves Residents stranded

Residents' trust in their community's new levee was justified Saturday as the earthen wall protected their town from the Meramec River, bloated by heavy rain that caused flooding.

The Meramec crested about midday at 37.8 feet -- its record there is 39.7 feet -- the National Weather Service said. That was about 3 feet below the top of the levee.

Upstream in Eureka, the river crested several hours earlier at 40 feet, below that town's record of 42.9 feet.

The high water pushing against the other side of the Valley Park levee didn't bother customers at Meramec Jack's bar and grill, where owner Tracy Ziegler was pouring cold beer Saturday morning.

Ziegler, 47, had been confident all along that the levee would hold.

"I haven't even lifted my computer off the floor in the office," said Ziegler, who bought the bar in 2005, just after the Army Corps of Engineers finished the levee a few hundred yards away. "Why would they spend $50 million if they expected it to fail?" she said.

Flood-weary residents of Missouri, Arkansas and Ohio also were fighting to save their homes after heavy rain pushed rivers out of their banks. CNN Article

Economists say United States is in a recession

Some economists say the United States is not in a recession, but don't tell that to the majority of American consumers.

A national CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released this week found that the recent economic downturn has taken its toll.

Americans are driving less and even cutting back on necessities such as food and medicine. The financial strains have led a vast majority of people to believe that the U.S. economy has entered a recession.

"This economic downturn will be relatively mild according to the numbers," said Wachovia economist Mark Vitner. "But the pain and discomfort for the consumer will be the most severe since 1991, and possibly since 1981 to 1982."

But there is some hope for the future, as a majority of those surveyed feel that the economy will rebound in 2009. CNN MONEY

Edmontosaurus

Edmontosaurus I was in the mouth! The Edmontosaurus which was discovered in edmonton, ab Canada was named after the city which the bones were discovered in. A mummified dinosaur was found in the devils tower near drumheller alberta, hessians believe it was near the province of british columbia near vancouver but this was not the first discovery.

The Edmontosaurus was a interesting dinosaur in the fact that it would nash its food back and forth with its teeth with cheek muscles. How do we know this to be historically accurate and they did this? Simple we are arrogant jerks that just make this crap up and say it in a pom pus self assured voice. We really have no idea since hey all we got is bones here buddy.

The first discovery of the Edmontosaurus was in Edmonton, Ab and paleontologists had originally found the skin, yeah hard to believe eh , easy cuz we made this crap up. The impressions left by the skin lead us to the bones. But don't take our word for it try here

The festival will take part on the series of soccer fields that surround the stadium.

Promoters plan two main stages and three smaller ones. Some 50 acts are planned over the two day event.

Hannaford Supermarket Credit Card Thefts

The Hannaford Bros. supermarket chain said Monday that a breach of its computer systems may have given criminals access to more than four million credit and debit cards issued by nearly 70 banks nationwide. While the banks appear all but ready to blame Hannaford for failing to follow payment card industry standards on security, there are signs that this may be the first of many cases to surface this year wherein the affected retailer was hacked even though it appeared to be following all of the security rules laid out by the credit card associations.

The Boston Globe's Ross Kerber today writes that Hannaford is still investigating the specifics of how the data was taken, but that the company's chief executive said the data "was illegally accessed from our computer systems during transmission of card authorization." Translation: The hackers snatched the credit/debit card data sometime between when the customer swiped their card in the reader at the register and when that transaction was approved. Full Story

May Pang's Photo Book

I haven’t been this excited for a Beatle-related book to come out in a really long time. It's by May Pang, the former girlfriend of John Lenon. I was meeting with a friend last night, and we have a plan for this book. We are going to get it together (I know it sounds a little dorky), and then have a viewing party. We are going to play our Walls and Bridges bootlegs, and then follow them up with our Rock’n Roll session outtakes.

It’s going to be a Lost Weekend Party. We really should run tape as we comment on the book as we look through it for the first time. The play-by-play will be intense and hillarious. The depths of my Beatle-nerdom have never gone this far. In my estimation, though this book will be a nothing short of a brilliant treasure trove of new material. A feast for the eyes.

We are not getting a glossed-over, sugar coated version of a story. We are get archived evidence from someone who was there. Such stories and photos like these are rare in this day and age. It’s a rare treat to get such new Lennon material to pour over.

The last true glimpse into Lennon we got, that was totally new came from another woman in is life, Cynthia. But I’d have to argue that May Pang may have written one of the best books on John a few years earlier, in the form of Loving John. This new book, Instamatic Karma, looks like it will be the pictorial record of her time with John, though, and be nothing short of astounding.

Once my friend and I get a chance to sit down with this work, we’ll post our review, but for now, our friend, and resident NY Times Beatle expert Allan Kozinn will have to do the talking for us. It’s a great article.

Here is what we have have read in regard to May Pang

"If there’s one thing that May Pang has been fighting for the last 28 years, it’s the idea that John Lennon was depressed, isolated and out of control during the 18 months she lived with him, from the summer of 1973 to early 1975, when he reconciled with his second wife, Yoko Ono."

Obama speech

Two hundred and twenty one years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America’s improbable experiment in democracy. Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787.

The document they produced was eventually signed but ultimately unfinished. It was stained by this nation’s original sin of slavery, a question that divided the colonies and brought the convention to a stalemate until the founders chose to allow the slave trade to continue for at least twenty more years, and to leave any final resolution to future generations.

Of course, the answer to the slavery question was already embedded within our Constitution – a Constitution that had at is very core the ideal of equal citizenship under the law; a Constitution that promised its people liberty, and justice, and a union that could be and should be perfected over time.

And yet words on a parchment would not be enough to deliver slaves from bondage, or provide men and women of every color and creed their full rights and obligations as citizens of the United States. What would be needed were Americans in successive generations who were willing to do their part – through protests and struggle, on the streets and in the courts, through a civil war and civil disobedien
